Happy Thanksgiving | Gratitude, reflection

Many of us get reflective at Thanksgiving, contemplating everything in our lives for which we are grateful.  It is fitting that this month is the anniversary of the birth of Archer Career, It has been a crazy ride, most of which we could not have foreseen 5 years ago – including the success with which we have been blessed.

As I reflect on this holiday and season, I think about the original Thanksgiving. This celebration came from those hopeful for a new life in a new world and after enduring enormous hardship. The first Thanksgiving gathering brought the new colonists/Pilgrims and Native American allies together.

5 years ago, I embarked on a journey to a new world. Yes, very different than the Pilgrims. But, the uncertainty was there. Creating a software business, building an EdTech, that was the focus. We moved with our plans and began the work ahead. Then, encountered an unexpected storm - the covid pandemic.

This time has tested my leadership and particularly, my resilience, more than I would have ever thought possible. What has allowed us to move forward and celebrate our wins so far - people. The Archer Career team. My family, particularly my husband, who supports me in every way. Our board, my professional colleagues, and the friends through thick and thin.

Particularly, you. We have worked with many amazing individuals and organizations. People who believe. People with ambition, inspiration, and perspiration. Thank you.

Thanksgiving is often a time to gather, with family and friends. This has not been easy. We hope you are able to do so or do what you are able to do.

I have a few holiday traditions. One is having my sons involved in some aspect of the meal. This year, they made carrot cake. They do not like pumpkin anything. So instead, carrot cake cupcakes. The menu includes favorite dishes that combine my husband's and my family's traditions. Then, each year, I try a new recipe. Sometimes it works, sometimes not! It is at these times, I am reminded of what is important. My sons care about what we do together, having me taste the cake batter and proclaim, "delicious!" This is an important reminder and guides me as I tackle choices and challenges.

I hope you find your opportunities for gratitude and time to reflect on what matters for you and the people in your world. Happy Thanksgiving!
