We are hiring a Researcher and Content Writer! Archer Career is dedicated to guiding students and early career professionals in their career and professional development. We create engaging and educational career programs trusted by universities and their students.

About the job

In broad terms, you will work directly with Archer Career’s CEO and Head Writer, Dr. Pam Schilling. Based on our content roadmap, you will be given assignments to research, write, and provide input on the best presentation for student engagement. In many ways, you are the direct voice of the customer. Archer has several strategic partnerships in place with leading academic institutions (Univ. of Chicago, DePaul University, Einstein College of Medicine, Harvard Med School, Univ. of Rochester, Virginia Tech, and a few more!).

Your work as a Researcher and Content Writer will be to collaborate with our team to deliver your project and learn from the experience. Project areas include:

  • Conduct thorough research on career development topics. This includes extracting from Archer’s immense career library as a starting point.

  • Write and develop high-quality content for career programs, including course content, blog posts, articles, case studies, and social media updates.

  • Analyze data to identify trends and needs in career development, particularly topics and methods of presenting.

  • Collaborate with the CEO to design and implement new career programs.

  • Ensure all content is engaging, well-structured, and evidence-based.

  • Report to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

The role and compensation

We are a startup. As a result, flexibility, adaptability, communication, and dealing with ambiguity are essential.

  • The role will consist of 6 weeks projects. At the end of each 6 weeks, we will review and mutually determine if continuation is a great fit. It is ok if you are ready to move on or even better, you want to take on another assignment!

  • $2,000 for the 6 week period. Your compensation will be paid $1,000 at end of week 3 and $1,000 at end of week 6.

  • $100 stipend for technology (internet/mobile phone) - Paid at the end of week 3.

What you bring

The must have characteristics include:

  • Working on a degree, Bachelor’s, Masters, MBA, or other graduate (doctorate). Given our customers are degree-awarding institutions, this perspective is necessary. We will also prioritize graduate students, given our current market focus.

  • A clear passion for career advancement. This is critical and should be clear during our application process.

  • High confusion tolerance and can work with adaptability/flexibility.

  • Can work successfully given specific direction and guidance, open to feedback even when highly critical.

  • Attention to detail. High quality writing, ability to form into the relevant end-user voice.

  • Extreme empathy, optimism, encouraging, but kick-in-the-ass style - with origins in career coaching, we are 100% the champion for our clients. Sometimes we hug, sometimes, we deliver tough messages. You need to easily move through these styles.

  • Creative. We like to try things, pilot, be bold, be fun! You must be willing to say, “I tried it, it did not work! But, here is what I would do with the lessons learned.”

  • Clear, structured, and rigorous approach to work - you will need to track your activity using a CRM approach. We are nimble but we value process.

  • Strong, demonstrated interest in technology and its application to our business. Must be able and willing to use AI emerging technology for content creation, including ChatGPT and AI video software.

  • Excellent proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite. Knowledge of software applications including Invision, Tableau, Squarespace/Wordpress, project management software (we use Basecamp), etc. is a plus!

  • Strong and proactive communication skills, you won’t sit back, you will ask questions, share ideas, seek out clarity, update/inform the team - and do so both directly (by phone) and in writing (email or other).

  • Interest in working with a small team to contribute to our success, sharing and learning together, celebrating our success(es) and discussing our lessons learned.

Additional qualifications we believe helpful in this role:

  • Prior work doing coaching/mentoring/career advising, recruiting, or other career-focused activity.

  • Experience working in higher education, in education technology is also ideal.
